For the first time three generations of Van Dusen's (pictured here are my Son and Father) hunted the stand opening day this 2007 season. My Father and Son joined me as this "Monster of the Marsh" came walking through the early morning haze as the fog Lifted off the Half Moon Swamp in Clarks Mills, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. A 12 point typical whitetail buck, tipping the scale live weight at 286 lbs, he field dressed at 248 lbs. and was impressive enough, yet his rack that scored a 146 added even more to the mix. One shot from a Ruger 270 bagged this mammoth whitetail deer.

Get Closer: Camo Your Face If you want to get close to big game while using camo, one of the most important places is your face. I have found that if I go into the field with my "great white hunter" face, the game recognizes me, and flee. However with a good dose of face paint, so that I am no longer white the game may see me - but instead of fleeing, they look with curiosity. Try it.
