Hunting
plays a major part in the economy in all of Colorado,
but in particular in northwest Colorado.
Made up of Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Routt counties,
northwest Colorado has plentiful elk, mule deer and antelope
herds. A bounty of approximately 28,000
hunters come to this area annually. We hope that the
following information will help in planning your hunt
this season.
Licenses
for deer and elk in some cases are applied for and
drawn... for the lucky ones. Resident and non-resident
hunters alike must apply for deer tags and the area
you wish to hunt must be specified.
Resident
and non-resident elk hunters may purchase their bull
elk licenses over the counter. Cow elk license must
by applied for by both resident and non-resident and
are available at many Northwest Colorado locations.
The Bull license is a general license and may be used
anywhere in the state with the exception of the restricted
areas. Hunting in restricted areas is by application
only. Visit the DOW website for specific details, as they
do change from year to year.
A Conservation
Certificate number is required to obtain a license
and you may request one at the time of licensing.
If your birthday occurs after January 1, 1949 you
will need a Hunter Education Certificate also.
Hunter
information and application information may be obtained
by contacting the Sportsman Information Center, 360
